Crowns and Bridge

Crown and Bridge

Sometimes we have a problem that a simple filling won’t fix. When a tooth is fractured, has more extensive tooth decay, or is lost, Dental crowns and bridges remain the standard of care to create long lasting and esthetic repairs to your smile or bite. Using digital technology a solid block of color matched zirconia crystal is machined into your crown or bridge for an extremely strong and fracture resistant tooth. Without a metal substructure, Light travels through the crown just like a natural tooth and the results are amazing. It is hard for me as a dentist to tell which one of your teeth ‘has the crown’

Crowns

What is a crown?

A dental crown, or cap, is a way to fix a damaged tooth that completely covers the tooth to protect it and recreate its appearance. Crowns can be used for cosmetic repairs of front teeth, and on implants. A crown is usually recommended because of risk of fracture. Whether it has already broken, or has a large area of decay, or becomes fragile because of a root canal, the crown will prevent the tooth from breaking when you chew on it.

A bridge is still the most common way to replace a missing tooth or two. The bridge spans the gap as a single connected set of teeth. It has one or more fake teeth connected to two crowns. It is permanently cemented in, with the two crowns on the teeth on either side of the open space.

Bridges are adaptable too many situations and can be made out of full porcelain, gold or, a combination of the two. They can be used to replace multiple teeth and can be placed on implants as well. A full arch porcelain bridge can be made to sit on four implants is a popular alternative to a complete denture.
